Good habits to have in the morning
Let’s start with some good habits to have in the morning.
Don’t underestimate the power of a good morning routine! This helps you to start your day with a fresh mind!
1. Get enough sleep
The first habit I highly, highly recommend you adopt is to get enough sleep!
I need a ton of sleep, I’m talking 8 hours minimum!
For the longest time I neglected that fact, slept 7 or sometimes only 6 hours. Because everyone else seemed to be doing fine like this. Why would I need more?
Well, turns out I get sick, moody and forgetful if I sleep less that 8 hours!
So, I finally accepted that fact. Now I make sure to always (with very few exceptions) sleep 8 or 8.5 hours.
This helps to become the most focused and time efficient person I can be!
2. Stop hitting the snooze button
Omg, this is such an important one! Adopting this habit actually changed my life!
When I was in Highschool, I hit the snooze button every single morning. It always ended up by me getting up the last possible moment. I’d then be super stressed and bitchy to everyone who spoke to me. But even worse, I was tired! Really, really tired!
At some point I finally got rid of that bad habit and replaced it by simply getting up as soon as my alarm goes off. And now it’s so easy that I couldn’t imagine doing it any other way!
You’ll have to force yourself the first few times. In fact, it may take a few weeks of even months until you’ve successfully implemented this new habit. Check out my article about the question “how long does it take to develop a habit” to find out how long…
But it’s so worth it!
You now get the right amount of good quality sleep and can start your day in a calm, relaxed manner.
3. Make your bed every morning
Another very simple, yet impactful habit.
You might ask: why does it matter if I make my bed or not?
Well, it’s subtle but making your bed actually has an impact on your mind. This simple act gives your mind a feeling of satisfaction because you already achieved something today.
Additionally, it looks neat and tidy which helps you to think more clearly.
4. Drink water
Staying hydrated is crucial for so many things. It’s particularly important for your brain to work properly.
So, make sure you drink enough water every day. It’s best to start by drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning.
What are some good habits to have everyday
Now let’s look at some good habits to have every day, throughout the day.
1. Set up money management
Knowing to budget well will get you so much further in your life!
Just imagine not ever having to wonder if you’ve got enough money left for the month. Sounds pretty good, right?
Here’s some inspiration how to budget your money using the 50/30/20 rule:
2. Time management
Another thing that you should make sure is managed well is your time! Time management is actually even more important than money management. Because time is something you won’t get back!
So, make good time management a habit by establishing a system that works for you. Here are 8 tips to get you started.
3. Write things down
Did you ever go to the grocery store and forget what you wanted to buy?
I certainly have and it’s a terrible time eater.
This is why I highly recommend you adopt the habit of writing everything down.
There’s no need for you to memorize your grocery list, all your tasks at work and all your lunch meetings. Just write things you need to remember down the minute they come up!
Trust me, this will save you so much time!
I use Google Keep and Goolge calendar to keep tasks and grocery lists organized.
4. Exercise or walk daily
Movement keeps your body and your mind fresh!
There are so many benefits to moving your body that there’s really no excuse not to do it!
This is why I strongly recommend you make this a daily habit.
For me as a dog owner this is really easy. I just have to walk the dog. So, daily walks became a routine as soon as I got him.
If you don’t own a dog, you can always get one… Just kidding!
But you can find other motivators to get that habit going.
For instance, I also listen to podcasts when I walk my dog (I love smart multitasking!). So, I’m really looking forward to my walks, because for one, I love being outside and two, I finally get to listen to my favorite podcasts again!
5. Eat healthy
Eating healthy is another kind of no brainer habit you should get going today!
Healthy food can nourish your body to keep it energized and keep a good blood flow. This means that your brain gets lots of energy too.
6. Always put a thing back where you took it from
Another good habit to have for your everyday life is to simply put things back from where you took them.
This will save you so much time and get your house so much more organized. Of course, it makes sense to have some kind of organization system set up once. Give everything its place in your house.
And then just put things back as soon as you stop using them. This will save you an enormous amount of time looking for things and you barely ever have to tidy stuff up!
Plus, by developing such a simple habit you get the right mindset to build more difficult routines!
Sounds pretty awesome, right?
7. Tidy your clothes as soon as you take a layer off
That goes into the same category as the last point.
Stop putting your clothes all over the place and adopt the habit of always putting clothes away the moment you take them off!
My system is that I have a clothes rack where I put things I could potentially where again. The clothes that need a wash go straight into the hamper. I have a white and a black one, so when I do my laundry on Saturday morning, I can empty the whole hamper into the laundry machine. On Saturday morning I also decide which of the other clothes are still okay to wear again. I put these back into my closet, the rest also goes into the hamper.
And there you go, no more clothes lying around all over your house!
What are some good habits to have in the evening
Now on to the last part of your day: what are some good habits to have in the evening?
1. Get everything ready for the next day the night before
This is a huge one for women: get your outfit, your purse, your lunch and everything you need for the next day ready the night before.
This will save you lots of time in the morning when you might not feel like thinking all that much. Just do it in the evening and you can start the next day without losing any time.
2. Tidy up something before going to bed
If you struggle to keep your place tidy, I’ve got a great little evening habit for you: Tidy up one thing before you go to bed.
If you can make this a habit you can literally train your brain to tidy up. Just get used to putting one single thing away every evening and soon you’ll have a marvelous place without even realizing it.
3. Floss your teeth before going to bed
And one last really easy habit you can integrate into your evening routine: floss your teeth before going to bed.
Do it every time after you brush your teeth. Put the flossing next to your tooth brush so you don’t forget and it will become a habit pretty quickly.
What 3 habits will improve your life?
If I had to name 3 habits that will improve your life I’d pick the following:
- Get enough sleep
- Write things down
- Always put a thing back where you took it from
These 3 habits are very easy to implement and will have a huge impact.
Adopting those 3 habits helped me get more relaxed and save so much time on annoying, miscellaneous stuff that would leave me stressed and angry.
Now, I can use this time for things I actually enjoy. Plus, it helps me organize and mange my time in a way to achieve my goals.
Alright, so these are some good little habits that you can easily integrate in your life. If you only manage to develop one or two of the habits listed in this article, you made a huge step forward.
Developing habits is actually a skill that has to be trained to become good at.
So, just start with 1 or 2 easy ones and you’ll get better at developing new routines over time!
